PVC, Mesh or Roller Banner? How to Choose the Right Banner

Banners are one of the quickest and most affordable ways to get your business noticed – but choosing the wrong type can mean a banner that flaps in the wind, fades too soon or is a pain to put up. Here is a simple guide to the three most popular options.

PVC banners: the all-rounder

PVC banners (also called vinyl banners) are made from a strong, solid material that prints bold, vibrant colours. They work well indoors and outdoors and are ideal for:

• Shop fronts and “Now open” announcements
• Events, fairs and sports days
• Sale and promotion banners on railings and walls

Because the material is solid, PVC banners give the sharpest print – but they also catch the wind, so they are best fixed to a wall or a sheltered fence.

Mesh banners: for windy and exposed places

Mesh banners have thousands of tiny holes that let wind pass through. That makes them the safer choice for:

• Scaffolding and building sites
• Fences around sports pitches and car parks
• Any exposed spot where a solid banner could act like a sail

The print is still clear from a distance, and the banner puts far less strain on its fixings in strong wind.

Roller banners: for indoor events and receptions

Roller banners (pull-up banners) roll out of a stand in seconds and pack away into a carry case. They are perfect for exhibitions, conferences, shop interiors and reception areas. Ours are 2000mm high and come in three stand qualities:

• Economy – low cost, ideal for occasional or one-off use
• Mid-Range – a heavier base for regular use
• Premium – our sturdiest stand for frequent exhibitors

Hemming and eyelets explained

Hemming folds and seals the edges of a PVC or mesh banner so it is stronger and less likely to tear. Eyelets are the metal rings you use to tie or cable-tie the banner in place. Choose eyelets in the corners for small banners, or every 50cm for larger banners and windy locations. On our PVC and mesh banners, hemming and eyelets are free.

Which size do I need?

As a rule of thumb, your main headline should be readable from where people will see it. For a banner seen from across a road, keep the text short and large – a business name, one offer and a phone number or website is usually enough.
